The Maryland Friends of Midwives

Today the Maryland Friends of Midwives had our second official meeting. I feel like it went well and I’m getting excited because things are starting to come together. We should have official non-profit status by the end of the week!

From the homepage of the MFM:

The Maryland Friends of Midwives is a grassroots organization which protects and supports all forms of midwifery, educates the public about the midwifery model of care and works to increase access to midwifery services.

I am SO excited about this organization! These are exciting and uncertain times, with health-care reform happening and our economy struggling. It’s a perfect time to start really working towards positive changes for our mothers, children and for their families and our community as a whole. This organization isn’t about plugging home births, either. It’s about optimizing the choices we have. Personally, I want to see evidence-based care available in all settings for ALL women. Therefore, I’m delighted to be part of this organization and I’m inviting you to check us out!

That’s fantastic! I’ve seriously been considering training for a doula or a midwife and I think support like this is fantastic!
