Memorial Day Weekend

I hope everyone had an amazing Memorial Day Weekend! Ours was full of ups and downs but overall, it was fabulous. I do apologize that Monday Munchables just didn’t happen. Unfortunately, I fried my laptop. Next week, though, we’ll get right back to it!

So much went on this weekend! Thursday was just one of those days. You know what I mean- when you wake up retarded and no amount of coffee, food or well, anything can fix it? Yeah. First I melted a plate. Yes, I foolishly set it on the stove while horribly distracted with this or that screaming child and later, went to heat something up and turned on the wrong bloody burner. Thankfully I was standing right there so I smelled it before a fire started but it was beyond salvage by the time I noticed it. Argh. The “special” didn’t stop there, though. Maybe an hour later, I dumped a glass of water right ON my keyboard. So now, my laptop is off to the shop and I’ve lost my work, lol. Obviously, Thursday was not a shining example of my exemplary intelligence. Thankfully, after my kids were in bed, a friend of mine came and rescued me from myself and we saw the new Robin Hood. It was AWESOME. Honestly, it was much better than I was expecting and well worth the expense of seeing it on the big screen. I love going to the movies anyway.

Friday and Saturday were busy but nothing crazy went on, just family stuff. Sunday I was supposed to go grocery shopping but my friends were experiencing their own version of “retard day” which started with a puppy eating someone’s shoes and got better from there. So instead I did laundry and when I got home from that, grabbed my son and headed to a BBQ at a friend’s relatives. SO nice, it was hot, sunny and there was waaaaaay too much food AND a pool! Anyone that knows me knows that I LOVE pools. I love to swim! My son got his first pool experience and he LOVED it. When we left, we were invited back the next day so I arranged with dh to keep Ethan and decided to take the girls the following day.

While I was gone, dh took our girls to a playground and they goofed off there for hours. When I got home, they were playing out back with some neighborhood kids, joining in on that family’s festivity. It’s always nice to meet neighbors that are very nice and Ms. Sue is nice AND gracious. I think our exhausted children finally all found their beds by 10pm. I went to bed around 1:30am and was awoken by not one, but TWO of my children at 4am. Neither one of them would go back to sleep and I’m sure you can imagine the angsty bickering that went on between exhausted Parental units 1 and 2. I should never have mentioned going to the pool the next day, I think. Abigail woke up and would not go back to sleep. She and her sister both slept in their bathing suits- that is how excited they were! At 5am the birds are singing like crazy and there’s my 3yo, nose-pressed to the screen, going “Hi birdies! We’re going SWIMMING TODAY!!” Ethan was equally awake and happy. He had no intention of going back to sleep, he just wanted to chase his sister around the room squealing happily.

My husband managed maybe an hour of sleep during this time and I managed another and that was that. I think, total, I got about 2.5hrs of sleep. But off to the craziness that is grocery shopping for two large families (I shop for a family of six and my friend does so for a family of five and we share a car to do so). Then was home, unload, pack up two absolutely bouncing little girls and head off for a day of fun in the sun!

We had a great time. I have tons of dark freckles now AND a sun-burn, both my girls are now brown and dh ended up getting a nice long nap in the middle of the day. I was so exhausted by the time I got all the kids down that I just bathed and went to bed. I’m still tired but in a good way! The best part is that even my 3yo slept all night long. In fact, she didn’t get out of bed until after 9am and that’s really saying something as she is usually the FIRST child up every day (between 6:30 and 7am)!

The only real downside to all of this adventuring is that I don’t have a single picture. Camera batteries are dead and I haven’t got around to charging them. Stay tuned, though, as my hope is to get pictures from last week’s adventure to the zoo up!

I always wake up retarded where no amount of coffee can fix it. You mean…other people have these as off days?!?!

Also..there is never way too much food. There’s usually just a retard overloaded on coffee eating everything… that would be me yes. xx
