Best Dad EVER!

Have I ever mentioned that my husband is the greatest dad ever? Because he IS, guys. For serious!

Grammy bought the girls a kiddy pool two years ago that we never put up because we either didn’t have the space for it or no way of filling it up. Not only that but they were really young, Abby was just a year old and Morgan was three so it’s not like they were missing it. But now they’re older, other children in the neighborhood have them up and it is ridiculously hot lately. Naturally, then, we’ve been talking about putting it up.

Now, my oldest daughter has a friend that lives across the street who happens to have a kiddy pool. If we allowed her to do so, Morgan would spend every free moment over there. This just isn’t fair to this little girl’s mother. Yesterday was brutally hot and muggy and so the little girl was playing in her pool. Morgan wanted to go join her SO badly. Unfortunately, while Morgan is welcome over there much of the time, Abigail is not. It’s nothing against Abigail but Morgan and her friend are old enough to play in the pool without constant supervision but our neighbor doesn’t feel comfortable with children as young as Abby in the pool unless she’s actively sitting out there watching them. So there are times when her littlest daughter isn’t allowed in the pool and neither is my littlest girl. It’s reasonable but not something that a 3yo really understands. We do allow Morgan over there without her from time to time but yesterday Tony didn’t think it was a good idea, particularly since Morgan had spent the better part of the last two days over there.

I had to go do laundry so I wasn’t home to see my little girl standing in our front yard, watching her friend play from across the street. Tony said she looked all forlorn and kept begging and pleading with different ideas. He felt so badly for her! So on a whim, he got out the pool, blew it up and started filling it up with a pot. He said it took him an hour and he only quit then because he was tired of carrying pots of water from the sink to the back!
When I got home, I was met with two delighted little girls who had spent the whole evening playing in their very own pool. I remember very well the perfection of long summer evenings in the kiddy pool as a child and I’m so glad they get to have this experience, too.

I have to be honest; I would not have done that! I told you he was the best Dad I’ve ever known!

  1. What a great Dad indeed! Thanks so much for stopping by and being willing to share your thoughts on the vaccine issue, I truly appreciate it.

  2. What a honey!
It’s been hot over here too. In a moment of weakness I got out the hosepipe and sprinkler attachment so the children could play in the sprinkler. Of course, my 3 year old was watching eagle-eyed. I came downstairs the other day to find he’d set up the sprinkler himself, and my laundry hanging on the line in the garden was DRENCHED!

Thanks for stopping in, Melissa, and thank YOU for such a thoughtful post on what has, in my experience, been a hot-button issue!

*giggle* Baroness, I’m so sorry, I know that in the moment that must’ve been maddening but I admit that when I read it, I had to chuckle. You just can’t help but love the impishness sometimes, even if they are little monsters!
