There is something to be said about a child that does chores. I wish I would have been more firm with my oldest.

Now, I get a fresh start! Yeah!
We will see how it goes.

Comment on 30 days of posting, Day 4: Were breasts created for sex? by Chris C

As a man and father of four daughters I get very angry when people suggest breastfeeding in public is inappropriate. If a man finds the sight of a breast overwhelmingly tempting, he can easily look in another direction. I would usually do that anyway because in our society a man looking at a woman breastfeeding is assumed to be doing so for sexual gratification rather than appreciating the beautiful relationship between mother and child.
Having said that I actually I think our whole bodies were made for sex. The biggest "sex part" of all is our skin. Experiencing contact with another person's skin is very intimate. Does that mean all our skin should be covered in public?
It's not a topic I discuss much with my male friends but I certainly find it arousing when my partner touches my nipples. So mens' nipples should be always covered as well?
Most people I know kiss during sex. Would anyone suggest this means lips should not be exposed in public?
I don't believe just because a part of our body plays a part in sex that part should always be covered in public.
The whole problem, I believe, comes down to trying to create rules for what we should and should not do in all situations. We can generally tell when someone is being sexually provocative but it is very difficult to put into black and white legal terms. There is no sense in which a breastfeeding woman is being sexually provocative. If a man finds it so that's his problem not hers.

As someone who breastfed, i have to say I really enjoyed your post. I have friends on both sides of this spectrum. I really think we as moms just have to let it go. We have to let go of any judgement. We are meeting our kids needs and it doesnt matter if it comes from our breast or a bottle. Your thoughts were spot on! TFS

Janelle, thanks for reading!

I think we struggle with judging how others parent because of the little voice in our heads that is constantly questioning whether or not *we* are doing a good enough job. If we can determine that *she* is is doing it wrong because it's not what we would choose, than we know that we are doing it right!

Uh, what happened. Oops. Anyway, what I was going to say is that an entire generation (or a few) have been raised on bottles and they seem by all appearances pretty much okay. And I have breastfed all three of my kids. With the third, though, since I went back to work when she was 3 months, we did a lot more supplementing than before, with...that's right...FORMULA.

Bad mom! Bad!

This is a great post. I love your analysis of the mom turning around and essentially judging the breastfeeding moms in the same way she condemns in them. I think it's weird when women get so wrapped around the axle about how other women chose to parent their children. (I mean, to an extent, obviously. There are some MESSED UP practices out there that I think need to be judged. How could a sane person NOT? :)). But when it comes to breastfeeding vs

As a bottle-feeding by necessity mum who did everything she could to breastfeed (and managed to supplement my meager breastmilk flow for nearly 3 months for both children before giving completely into the bottle)I completely agree with you. Well said.
Thanks for stopping by on my SITS Day! :)

I definitely think it helps children to be raised with a good work ethic and to take responsibility, and that can only happen when their parents allow them to work. You can say oh they're too young, oh they're young but one day they'll be sixteen and not do anything, because why should they, you've managed fine before without their help. :)
